Applications Now Closed for the 2026 SHARP Research Project Grants
Scottish Heart and Arterial Risk Prevention (SHARP) recently invited applications for the 2026 round of the SHARP Research Project Grants.
SHARP has a strong presence in the areas of medical education and scientific symposia, with a rich history and association with Cardiovascular Research in Scotland. The society is actively re-engaging in this area through the establishment of a Research Sub-Group, tasked with exploring options for the society to undertake or support a limited package of research activity in line with the charity’s aims and available funding.
The value in supporting research is believed to be threefold: (a) to promote the profile of SHARP more widely and use this involvement as a platform to increase the society’s visibility, (b) to generate clinically meaningful research outputs that will potentially benefit the people of Scotland, and (c) to act as an expansion of our educational activities to physicians, AHPs, and patients.
Funds will be allocated to support up to two major national collaborative projects of clinical research in Cardiovascular Disease conducted across Scotland. These projects are expected to be investigator-initiated proposals with a budget of up to £30,000 per project and a timescale of delivery of up to 36 months.
In a national competitive process, applications will be subject to peer-review by trustees and other experts, and ranked according to the following criteria:
The importance of the research question
Scientific excellence
Clinical utility and application of outputs
Impact and educational opportunity
This opportunity was open to SHARP members only. Applicants were strongly advised to read the Standard Conditions of the Grant prior to submitting their applications.
