Rebuilding lives after stroke: Global opportunities for research

Overview

We are pleased to share details of an upcoming event hosted by the University of Edinburgh on behalf of Professor Gillian Mead, Professor of Stroke and Elderly Care Medicine.

Usher Connects | Rebuilding Lives after Stroke: Global Opportunities for Research

Monday 11 May 2026 | 13:00–18:00 | Usher Building & Online

Join this networking event about Life after Stroke, an area that Professor Mead has championed for many years. Finding better ways to rebuild lives after stroke and to address the multiple long-term problems after stroke is of crucial importance to stroke survivors and their families. Yet previously this area of research has tended to be neglected.

This event will bring together researchers and clinicians with an interest in Life after Stroke.

Attendees will hear from international experts in this field, including Professor Craig Anderson and Dr Juliet Bouverie OBE, and discuss research priorities and the research methodologies needed to develop life after stroke research globally. The event aims to inspire new research collaborations in this crucial, but under-researched, field.

Although the focus of the event is on stroke - it will also be of interest to those working in other disease areas-where long-term consequences are common and under-researched, and where patients often have multiple long-term conditions and frailty.

This event is free to attend, but registration is required whether you intend to come in-person or join online. Programme, speaker updates, and registration details will continually be added to:
